Discord Rules Generator

Put together clear server rules from proven building blocks, adapt them to your community and copy them formatted for your rules channel.

  • Completely free
  • No sign-up
  • Runs only in your browser

Good server rules are short, clear and fit your server. This Discord rules generator starts with templates for eight server types, from gaming and roleplay to learning and customer servers. You switch single rules on or off, reword them, add building blocks from other templates or your own rules, and decide which punishment levels apply to violations. The preview instantly shows how the message looks in Discord. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

Post with Lizbot

In the dashboard module “Rules acceptance” you paste the title and rules text and choose a channel and role. Lizbot posts the rules as an embed with a button: whoever accepts gets the role. If you change the rules, you can ask everyone to accept again.

How it works

  1. Choose a server type

Choose what your server is for. The generator loads matching rules, for example voice etiquette for gaming or IC/OOC separation for roleplay.

  2. Adjust the rules

Switch building blocks on or off, edit the text, change the order and add your own rules or blocks from other templates.

  3. Set punishment levels

Decide what happens on violations: from a warning to timeout, kick and ban. The levels appear right below the rules.

  4. Copy and post

Copy the rules as Discord Markdown or plain text and post them in your rules channel. With Lizbot you can also post them as an embed with an accept button.

Frequently asked questions

How many rules should a Discord server have?

Five to twelve clear rules are usually enough. Hardly anyone reads long lists. Merge similar points and write one clear rule rather than three vague ones.

Do I need to mention the Discord guidelines?

Discord’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines apply anyway. A short reminder still makes sense so nobody overlooks them. That is why almost every template includes a matching building block.

How long can a rules message in Discord be?

A normal message can be up to 2,000 characters long. The generator counts along and warns you. For longer rules, split them into two messages or post them with Lizbot as an embed, which allows up to 4,000 characters.

What belongs in the punishment levels?

Describe what happens on the first, second and third offense, which violations lead to an immediate ban and how members can appeal. That way everyone knows where they stand, and your staff decides consistently.

How do I format rules in Discord?

Discord understands Markdown: # for headings, **bold** for rule titles and 1. for numbered lists. The generator does this automatically. If you need the rules outside of Discord, copy them as plain text without formatting.

Can new members accept the rules?

With Lizbot, yes. In the dashboard module “Rules acceptance” you paste the text, and Lizbot posts it as an embed with a button. Whoever accepts gets a role. If you change the rules later, you can ask everyone to accept again.

Put it on your server with Lizbot

With Lizbot, new members accept the rules with a button and get a role for it. You handle violations with warnings that automatically lead to a timeout or ban based on your levels.
